At the request of teachers we have also included the lower South Island, Oamaru. mimio Essentials for Beginners is a course where we run through equipment setup, trouble shooting, the range of tools available to you and how to use them. Have you ever had one of those ideas that seem great at the time but when you start to do it, it becomes harder than you thought it would be? This workshop was like that. What made it a challenge was I have learnt to edit photos using a professional package like, Fireworks, Photoshop Elements and Photoshop. These are fabulous programmes but if, like the school I was in, you couldn't afford more than a couple of copies due to the license prices then you were stuck. (I don't understand products being charged to schools at a commercial price, but that is another blog).

I discovered something this weekend. Sometimes we try new things that work. Other times we try new things and they don’t work, or at least they don’t work for us. At the beginning of the year I bought myself an ITC Innovative Teacher Planner. It’s quite neat. Every second double set of pages throughout the book has thinking strategies and examples. There’s lots of space in the planner and it’s spiral bound and stays together very nicely. BUT …

Once again we offered a Beginners workshop for teachers who were feeling like they wanted to throw the mimio out the door. It wasn't because it wasn't good technology or they couldn't see the potential, but it was the frustration of trying to learn how to use the mimio, while trying to fit everything else into the programme.
