Each holidays we run workshops for teachers who find training during the term too hard and prefer a clear head to concentrate. These workshops are different from the ones offered during the term at schools. We ran both the Beginners and Getting Practical Workshops in Auckland last year with full workshops. We have decided to offer them in Christchurch and Wellington this year as well.

Beginners Workshop
This workshop is as it suggests for beginners. Going over the tools, how and when to use them, trouble shooting, setting up. Hands on experience standing by a whiteboard with teachers from other schools. One such Auckland teacher wrote on the evaluation form: "What an eye opener!! I have had a great learning experience. Can't wait to go home and play. Having the hands on with our own computers was great." An Intermediate teacher wrote, "Found all of it to be valuable. It was very clear to understand and follow. Notes clearly set out and easy to follow.

Getting Practical with mimio Studio
This workshop allows participants to learn how to make classroom resources using the mimio Studio software. Topics include grouping/ordering, picture reveals, bingo and using the recording tool. The teachers were asked to comment on what they found valuable about the course. Here are a couple of comments, "Everything. Well organised. Excellent handouts. Great pace. Facilitators very keen to help out." "Everything-practical ideas and notes were great so all could move at their own pace."

NEW! Creating Galleries with mimio Studio
Once you know your way around mimio Studio the galleries can become frustrating, especially the white background around images. I certainly found this, hence this new workshop. Many schools do not have their own photo editing programme due to the cost. I have been hunting for one that is as good as PhotoShop Elements and have found a free online programme. We will be using this to createyour own galleries in mimio Studio and organize your content for your classroom lessons. Topics include how to remove white backgrounds and apply effects to your images. We will also look at how to use this programme with the students.
